Prices and specs have been announced for the new Volkswagen Golf GTD, and it starts at €29,460.
Prices have been announced for the all-new Volkswagen Golf GTD diesel hot hatch, and the range starts at just £310 more than the previous model despite big gains in power and efficiency.
Revealed at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year and available to order now, the range starts at £25,285 for the three-door manual version and rises to £27,355 for the five-door DSG automatic model.
It's powered by a 2.0-litre TDI engine that produces 182bhp and 380Nm of torque (30Nm more than the outgoing model) which helps it go from 0-62mph in just 7.5 seconds and reach a new top speed of 142mph. But despite the extra power, the new GTD's official fuel economy figures are better than for the first generation Golf BlueMotion.
The new GTD will return 67.3mpg and emit just 109g/km of C02 in manual trim. These figures do rise slightly if you opt for the DSG automatic, which claims to return 62.8mpg and 119g/km. Choosing the auto also adds a further £1,415 to the asking price, too, with the three-door model starting at £26,700.
The GTD gets similar visual upgrades to the flagship Golf GTI model, including twin chrome exhaust pipes, a rear diffuser, lowered sports suspension and a more aggressive front bumper and side skirts. Bespoke details include smoked LED Bi-xenon lights and 18-inch alloy wheels, while the interior gets grey tartan sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and bespoke instruments.
Standard equipment includes a touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio and Bluetooth, dual-zone climate control, stainless steel pedals and parking sensors. Options include Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC), a reversing camera and full leather upholstery.
